She's my late, great aunt Bertha's granddaughter.
Hmm. That makes her my second cousin.
On the other hand, K., now 14 has a nephew Julian who is 3 months older than she.
Inverterate breeders create strange family trees.
Actually, she would be Bertha's great-granddaughter, which makes her my second cuz once removed, I think.
Tom is Bertha's grandson. Robin is third cousin to my kids, and third cousin once removed to my grandsons.
We have a bilateral kinship system that creates this kind of confusion at the margins.
She was born in the car.
I'm laughing; we have such bendings of the branches in my family, too: M has nieces and nephews 5+ yrs older than she. Her nephew told his clasmates once that he'd changed his aunt's diaper and his friends' jaws hit their chests.
