Early Industrial Technology As Art

Steam Saw SculptureThis picture (credit: Laguna Beach Independent) shows an obsolete steam saw, mounted for public display by Ganahl's Lumber in Laguna Beach, California. This type of saw is also Ganahl's logo.

The élite in early agrarian society hunted for sport. The Victorians, in an industrializing world, gardened. Some of us go in for crafts, or restoring old vehicles.

In short, we turn the hard work of bygone days into recreation, into chic. 100 years from now, will our great-grandchildren rebuild CP/M and Windows 98 computers?
